Teachable math moments to start the day
This was a post in our series on re-envisioning the first hour of the day. Earlier this year we shared ideas for signing in:
Below, we’re exploring the routine of “counting in.” But, first, a logistics question:
How might you make these routines work for you and your students?
Here are two options:
Option 1:
Have check-in, sign-in and count-in in a similar location
Call heterogeneous groups over to complete morning routines in groups of 4.
Coach as needed
Option 2:
Have check-in, sign-in and count-in scattered around the room.
Children complete morning routines independently.
Teacher and assistant work with targeted students in one of the areas each day.
