Environment Blueprint: Areas of the room
Creating spaces that spark learning and joy
If making the world more beautiful is messy, and we know it is, then that mess has to happen somewhere. What better place than an early childhood classroom?
What materials we offer and how we set up our spaces may look simple enough (in fact, sometimes the simpler the better), but by setting up our spaces with deep intentionality, we’re able to make room for and inspire the messy, joyful learning that will happen within them.
This week we dive into the physical environment and how to set up the bones of our classroom. We’re starting this Substack journey in early childhood and primary classrooms and we’ll grow (up) from here.
Just joining us? Here’s our first post:
Next week we’ll feature photographs from a preschool and see how different areas of the room are intentionally set up, used, and transformed based on the children’s emerging wonderings, stories, and creations.
And: Ask us anything for week four. What questions do you have? Here’s the form!
Thanks for being here with us. Please pass this along to someone who might like to join us.

Thanks Christine and Kristi for sharing easy to access, child centered tips for creating engaging classroom spaces. I’ll include this post in our curriculum newsletter.
Is there a way to download this document so I can easily share it with teachers and families? I love this!
